At Least It's Sunny!

This winter is never-ending. Today's forecast calls for 2-4 inches of fresh snow tonight with freezing rain on top of that tomorrow morning. The roads will be a mess for sure.

At least there has been some sun to enjoy. Yesterday the temperatures rose out of the teens (finally) and into the low twenties. The sun shone all day, and even though I still got shivery out at the barn, I felt better because of that sunshine. The horses did, too.

Trouble had a good roll in the snow and got up looking like a snowpony! (That's Sultanna watching him.)

The heater in the water trough had thawed most of the ice that had formed when the temperatures were below zero, so I did not need to use the ax to break it up.

Diablo and Abby got the first drinks. (Diablo is the herd alpha, and as her best friend, Abby gets a lot of perks, one of them being first drinks of the fresh water I just added.)

 Even in full winter coat and with hay and mud clinging to her coat, I think Abby is beautiful.

I was surprised that Diablo allowed Sultanna to join them - she is the lowest horse in the herd pecking order. But she tends to follow Abby around, and both mares let her be the next to drink.

A quick check of the heater in the new barn's bathroom to be sure that it was still working (yep!) and then I popped around to the other side of the new barn to say hello to Guppy.

Guppy's owner rents the blue barn and its pasture and does all her own work, but he's a little lonely since Shane died a few months ago, leaving him without a pasture mate. Since he was by the fence, I thought he'd like a little attention. He is so pretty! (Reminds me of my half-Arab, Indy.)

Tim got back from Arizona last night and so I can stay home tomorrow when the roads ice up as he will be back to doing his daily checks of the herd. (I do not do ice!) But as soon as that ice melts (and if the fresh snow isn't too deep and I can get up the lane to the barn) I will be back. I'll also run out in an hour or so for some final carrots before the storm comes through.

At least it is sunny again!
