Christmas Eve 2025: The Pie Dough Tutorial

Second Post of the Day

Kyle is working on a genealogical digital project to preserve family memories and important knowledge. Making pie dough for cherry pie passed muster and so he recorded me making the dough for this Christmas's cherry pies.

It's a personal history post (this blog is actually my journal), but if you want to learn how to roll out pie dough, here you go.

Happy Easter

 Happy Easter from about 60 years ago!

 My mom, me (in white hat), Steve, Leslie, and my dad.

We are at my Grandma and Grandpa Honeywell's home across town. No doubt we had gone there for Easter dinner at noon.

Today's dinner is here at our home after Church with a family favorite and tradition at Easter for dessert - Hershey Pie.

Recipe

1 6 pack of Hershey Bars

1 10-14 ounce bag of mini marshmallows

1 cup milk

1 pint whipping cream

2 graham or chocolate crumb pie crusts

Break Hershey Bars into pieces and melt with milk in sauce pan. (Resist temptation to eat any of the pieces. It will be hard but if I can do it, then you can!) When chocolate is melted, stir in marshmallows and stir or whisk until completely melted. Take off heat and let sit until mixture has cooled but is still in liquid form. Whip the whipped cream until very firm but not yet butter. Gently fold whipped cream into the chocolate mixture until thoroughly mixed. Pour into the two crusts and refrigerate until firm. Enjoy!

Pony Pal Mila's Unicorn/Birthday/Tea Party

Pony Pal Mila celebrated her fourth birthday with a tea party that morphed into a unicorn bash. She was all dressed up in a beautiful navy dress, pearls, and had had her hair put up. (That bright pink hand is from an art project earlier in the day.)

She and her mama have near-daily tea parties (although they drink hot chocolate - my kind of drink!) and they use teacups and teapots that I gave them that belonged to my mother and Grandmother Honeywell. (I come from a long line of collectors; on the female end, it was teacups and teapots. I have boxes and boxes of them that I inherited.) 

 I'd found this Happy Birthday teacup while out antiquing and Pony Pal Mila was thrilled to use it.

It was during the gift opening that the party switched into a unicorn bash. It wasn't on purpose; it was just that we all knew that Mila wanted unicorns for her birthday! (Last year it was My Little Ponies. She is definitely a horsey girl.)

 The first gift opened was a large stuffed pink unicorn that could be ridden by hopping. 

Pearls, fancy dress, and hair notwithstanding, Pony Pal Mila was off! (Sorry for the poor quality picture. I used it because I love the joy on Mila's face.)

 A Breyer Jasmine plushie from us along with a unicorn nightlight!

It didn't take long before the unicorns were starting to stack up - Mila has two sets of grandparents and five aunts and uncles in town.

 Soon some Disney princess dolls soon were roped into becoming unicorn riders.

These two were a bit too big to be stabled with the other new unicorns.

My Little Ponies were Mila's wish last year, and unicorns were it for this year. Dare I hope that for her fifth birthday she chooses horses?
