We are having a heat wave here and when that happens, I hibernate either with a good book or in the sewing room. This time I chose the sewing room and have a lot of haversacks cut out, in progress, or finished as a result.

FAMulous: Final Wrap Up

 Today I wrap up the show with answers to a couple of questions we are often asked.

Where did the FAS racing idea come from?

I'm a mama of three sons, Kyle, Curt, and Cole, all of whom were Boy Scouts. And Boy Scouts have a fun tradition, the Pinewood Derby, where they make race cars out a block of pine and race them against each other. I've been to many pinewood derbies over the years.

Allison and I were in the early stages of planning the 2022 FAMulous show and got to chatting about the ramp at the show hall and how neither of us would want to go down it in a wheelchair. 

I made an offhand comment about how we should race horses down it like a pinewood derby, and that was it - Allison had a prototype on wheels the next time we met!

Another question - who made our medallion?

That would be hobbyist and sculptor Megan Smith.

Finally, are collectibility shows well supported?

 

For us, yes. FAMulous had a full show hall of showers and many traveled far to join us. We had folks from 8 states: Iowa, Indiana, Illinois, Wisconsin, Michigan, Kentucky, Ohio, and Pennsylvania. Clearly the interest is there.  

FAMulous is the dream show that Allison and I would love to attend as entrants but sadly, collectibility shows are not held often. 

I'm typing the results and will send them to the entrants to check that I spelled their models' names correctly. After that I will send them to NAMHSA and the show will be well and truly over. It was fun, but it was also a lot of work. 

And now that it's over, I need to prepare for The Feast of the Hunters' Moon. So much for being retired!
