Tent Raising

The unicorn post is going to have to wait - I'm not quite done preparing it. So, in the meantime, here's a look at what I did on Labor Day - set up my new (to me) tent for period reenactments and The Feast of the Hunters' Moon!

It actually belongs to my sister and brother-in-love, Leslie and Rick. They have two tents and they are loaning me their smaller one.

There's a knack to setting it up

and Craig and Lisa came with me to Leslie and Rick's farm in Brookston

to learn with me. It takes at least two people to set up; more than that is better.

We got the corner poles up and then the ridge poles in the middle to give it height.

After that, we set in the perimeter poles

and put up only one side, just so we knew how the sides were hung.

I was intimidated by its size -

at 10.5 x 13.5 feet, it's bigger than I anticipated.

But then, I will need some room for visitors, right?

Hopefully I'll be able to get my tent up and looking like this when the time comes - and it is coming soon. Back to the sewing machine for me!
