More 2024 Ups and Downs

For those who have been saying that 2024 has been a tough year for them, I'm starting to feel the same way. Those wedding punches keep coming, it seems, along with some other things. Here's an update.

The JCs Squared finally felt well enough to pack up and head back to Rexburg, Idaho where they are both students. And, following the family pattern, they, too had car trouble during their drive.

Take a look at that hole in their tire!

Luckily they were able to get the spare on and made it home okay. That's Blue, Jayci's dog in the car with them. (Bottom right photo.) Ironically, JC also has a dog named Blue.

Covid has struck some parts of the family. Kyle, Jessica, and Titan all have had it but that seems to be it so far - fingers crossed. We don't think that the exposure occurred at the wedding as more people would be sick by now if it had.

Craig went grocery shopping after we got home and lost his wallet. We have searched everywhere around the house, in the car, and contacted the grocery several times, but it has not turned up. He is in the tedious process of replacing his driver's license, medical insurance cards, and credit cards. We are monitoring our bank accounts and there has been no unusual activity on any of them, thank goodness.

The chiming sound in my car is STILL not fixed. We have talked to Ford four times, each time being told that they would call us when they have an opening. But we have yet to receive a phone call. It's been eleven days since we first contacted them and we are very frustrated. We may go to the dealership in person and see if that gets us an appointment; if not, we plan t0 call other Ford dealerships in the area.

On a brighter note - I saw my first wild horses ever on the trip home from the wedding. Sarah told me that it was some of the Pilot Butte/Rock Springs herd. I did not get my camera out in time to snap any photos, but still, I saw wild horses!

I did not get out to see Hokey yesterday as planned. It was the first day of school for Teacher Daughter Lisa and we had her dogs for the day.

They love to come and we love to have them. As you can tell from the state of my living room, they play hard and wear themselves out. Here they all are in an "egg coma." Craig always scrambles an egg for each dog mid morning and then they all take a snooze. (Looks like he has joined them in that egg coma. Hah!)

The first week of school can be hard for them - they get used to having Lisa home most of the day and then suddenly, she's not. Coming here helps them adjust.

I also took a nap yesterday and woke up to find Pepper had jumped onto the bed and cuddled up to me, using my shoulder as her pillow. She's also hooked my arm with her left front paw. Sweet girl.

The days are starting to get shorter as Fall approaches, and now it is still dark outside when I take the dogs out first thing in the morning.

This morning I saw a real treat in the eastern sky. Can you see it?

Mars was right next to a star - sort of a near star/planetary eclipse!

What a beautiful way to begin my day! Here's hoping that those ups will begin outweighing the downs as 2024 progresses.

  1. Scrambles an egg for each dog. For this same item I have paid a restaurant. There is a great pun here: You all are furnishing a superb dog napping service.
