The Case for Liz

 Like last year, BreyerFest will be a hybrid event with an online component. That is such good news! But there is a change I'd like to see. 

Kimber Goodwin, their announcer, knows horses, is good with people, and does a nice job. But she doesn't really know models yet. She's learning, but she does not have the depth of knowledge that one of our longest hobby members has. And that hobbyist also happens to be a forty some year veteran of the reporting industry.

Liz Cory.

She was a news anchor (not reporter, ANCHOR) in Chicago and she still does commercial work. (I was driving in Chicago once when a commercial came over the radio and it was Liz!) Liz was in the hobby during its early days and she knows models, their history, the company's history (she was the first editor of JAH), and more.

Last year she and Kimber worked together on the live broadcast and it was wonderful - Liz brought her knowledge to the table and was able to give correct information about the models (and their mold histories) that they were discussing - historical bits about the molds etc. that Kimber doesn't know and doesn't mention as a result.

Liz currently is at the top of the reporting industry as a spokesperson for The Federal Aviation Administration, a position she has held for over 20 years. Here's a recent report that quotes her on a missing plane from JFK Airport that sadly went down. 

Liz has the expertise, she has the resume, and she has the knowledge about models deeper than almost anyone. Pairing her with Kimber Goodwin would be be a wise move on Breyer's part and a benefit to hobbyists.

BreyerFest Week: Liz and Live Streaming Thoughts

The live feed was virtual BreyerFestees' link to what was going on at the horse park throughout the weekend. Kimber Goodwin anchors the live feed and does a good job sharing the activities and such for those of us at home.

Saturday Liz texted me and told me that Kimber had interviewed her for Breyer's live feed. I tuned in and was able to catch the interview.

Kimber does well, but when she first began in 2020, she was new to model horses (although she was not new to horses.) That's improved with time, but I wish Breyer would use Liz for the live feed, too. 

Liz is a broadcast journalist and has anchored television news in the Chicago area, does voice work for commercials in radio and television, and is a spokeswoman for the Federal Aviation Administration. (Google Liz Cory, FAA and watch what pops up.)

You can get an idea of her "broadcast voice" from this video of her offering encouragement to newly diagnosed ovarian cancer patients. 

Combine Liz's journalistic chops with her vast knowledge of model (and live) horses, and I think she'd be an excellent co-host with Kimber.

I may say something to Liz and see if she'd mind if I spoke to someone at Breyer and suggested adding her to the BreyerFest team. I would not do that without her consent - after all, she may enjoy the freedom of simply enjoying BreyerFest as opposed to working and having to be on camera much of the event.

But if she is agreeable, I am going to do it.
