Christmas Horse & Calendar Reveal - Day 16

First Post of the Day

Christmas Horse of the Day

Mittens! The 2023 Pony for Christmas model.

I collect Breyer's blankets, and I especially like the holiday ones. This blanket, though, was a must-have.

My mom knitted me these gloves when I was nine and Mittens' blanket is so reminiscent of them. I actually still have one of them - my most favorite gloves ever. (I was already collecting Breyers at this point in my life, too.)

The Ponies for Christmas series come in neat gift boxes - I am a big fan of this series.

Advent Calendar Reveal - Day 16

Pasture fencing!  I put it back into its slot in the calendar as I am just putting out the horses this year.

There are ten horses; seven opened and three to look forward to!

The First Box Opened!

It was a cold, dreary day yesterday and between that and the siren call of the sewing machine, I did not visit Abby. (Which moves her up to the top of the priority list for today.)

I did replace Christmas ponies with winter ones.

And I got almost all of the Christmas decorations taken down and upstairs for packing away in the Christmas closet. (I miss the staircase swags and the candy cane pillars already!)

I worked on an 18th century chemise (French)/shift (English). All that's left to do is to run twill tape through the neckline for gathering (like the sleeves already have), hem it, and then do a final ironing.

And... I did get the first box of model horses opened!

I love Breyer's holiday shipping boxes. Wassail's box was green, and the Shetland Pony's is red.

The Shetland is a vintage mold but not one I actively collect or seek out.

But, I had mittens almost exactly like these when I was a little girl. They were favorites and I wore them for years until I lost one of them. (It's old mate is still in my tub of hats, scarves, gloves, and mittens.)

Plus I have all of Breyer's A Pony for Christmas series, so I caved and bought him during Breyer's warehouse sale.

I also bought another piece I'd once had but had then given away to Mountain Mama Jessica for Christmas last year.

She and Pony Pal Mila show each other their Christmas Breyers.

Jewels is a beautiful piece and he is on the Fighting Stallion mold, one of Breyer's earliest molds.

I'd always meant to replace the one I had given away, so I popped him into my cart during the warehouse sale.

The last item in that shipping box may surprise you. It is not something I ever thought I would buy for myself.

Breyer's unicorn advent calendar. I doubt Breyer will issue a new horse advent calendar in 2024 and I loved opening a door every day on this year's, so...

I figure that if by chance Breyer does release a new horsey one, I will pass this one on to a Pony Pal and buy the horsey one. But I'm prepared if they don't, just in case.

There is another box to open and I hope to do that later today, although I do have two appointments to go to. I have also begun sorting out models to sell. I may offer some of my sales models here, although I don't want to make this a selling blog. It's always functioned as my journal, but by the same token, I plan to offer things at a good price and I'd rather offer those prices to friends first. We shall see.

Stay 'tooned!
