Family + Wreath + Picture = Great Afternoon

I am still under a weight restriction when it comes to lifting, and climbing on ladders or step stools is definitely verboten. So, yesterday when my son Curt came over for a visit, I asked him to help me change out the summer wreath on my front door for the autumn one.
He was able to get up to the highest shelves in the garage where I store my wreaths and pull out my autumn horse head.
I got it online from Back in the Saddle a year or so ago, and think it is beautiful. It is so different from other fall wreaths but it incorporates autumnal elements in a horsey way.

While waiting on his dad, Curt's son, Ian, drew me a picture.

He drew himself and then a horse ("It really doesn't look like a horse but it's a horse, Grammy"), and finally a picture of me labeled "G" for Grammy.

Family visiting, a little help doing something that I cannot do myself right now, and a keepsake picture to put on my fridge... It was a great afternoon.

The Times, They are a-Changin'

As I drove past the farm fields today, I noticed something.
The corn is beginning to dry and turn brown.
So are the soybeans.

And if you look closely at the trees in the picture above, you'll see that some of the leaves, while not quite turning color yet, are losing their vibrant green color and fading into a softer, yellower green.

Autumn is on the way. And I am not sure I am ready for this:

Autumn Evidence

Windy fall day today! It may be unseasonably warm (77 degrees) but it's evident that it is autumn.
Hokey found these sycamore leaves delicious. Seeing them piled against the gate was a real harbinger of the cold weather that is coming our way.

The trees at our home are beautiful. And, they're getting big!
Mindful of the romantic old tale of an elderly couple deeply in love all their lives, who walked to the end of their lane together every evening, and then died together there and turned into trees with their branches interlaced (::sniff::sniff::) the one on the left I have always called Craig and the one on the right, Lynn. The tree to the west of the driveway, which has always been smaller than the other two, is Zeus. After all, Zeus moved in here with us so he was part of the family, too!
This is Lynn. Isn't she pretty this fall?? (Hah!!) She has had two robins' nests the past two years, too.
