Out in the Pasture

Earlier this week, I got a text from Tim, the kind of text that makes me super happy.

I really enjoy taking care of the horses when he travels.

Yesterday as I drove out to do the daily barn check, I saw that  the horses were far out in the northwest pasture. With the late fall backdrop, it was a perfect photo opportunity so I pulled my car over and snapped a few pictures.
Sultanna was relaxed and enjoying the weak sunlight with the woods behind her.
Abby and Diablo, and Trouble and Hokey. That's some of this winter's hay awaiting those cold, blustery days. We have round bales from our own hay field and then several hundred rectangular bales in the hay loft of the old barn in readiness.
Hay is in short supply this winter and very expensive when you can find it. We were lucky to get those rectangular bales at a good price.

This morning the temperature is 18 degrees. It will be a very chilly barn check when I go out later this morning. But at least our Halloween snow has melted and I don't have to slog through snow and ice.

Yet.
