An Update on the Minnie Mystery

Still no contact from Minnie's owners. Nothing on social media, either, although one of Lisa's "Found Dog" posts has had 50 shares. Minnie continues to be a mystery, albeit a very sweet and cute one!

A colleague from my former school, the school nurse, is Lisa's neighbor and has offered to take Minnie if her people do not contact her. We will be talking to Nan, too. Bob has been gone for two months and Nan loves dogs. Maybe she would like to take Minnie? It wouldn't hurt to ask her.

Regardless as to which of them take her, Minnie will be in good hands. She is such a lucky girl that Lisa found her.

Someone asked why Lisa didn't keep Minnie herself since she and Nash got along so well. Well, there are several problems, but the biggest is the backyard fence. Lisa has a doggy door and Nash and Mama go in and out at will all day long while Lisa is at work. Minnie can handle the door, but she can also duck under the fence and run loose. Making the fence Minnie-proof just is not an option right now and neither is keeping the doggy door closed all day.

Minnie the Mystery Dog

Minnie (short for Mini Me) is making herself right at home. She already has decided that Nash is her very best buddy in the world and he returns the affection.

Nash loves having another dog who is willing to play 24/7, even though she is only 3 lbs to his 90.

Which is a concern. He is gentle and he is careful, but... playing tug? He could throw her across the room if he jerked too hard. Or as they bounce and run around, there's a risk of him stepping on her. And believe me, Minnie bounces. She leaps. She is one feisty pup and clearly thinks she is Nashie's equal when they play.

But, as you can see in this video, he's very gentle with her.

I love how he invites her to play a couple of times near the end of the video. Nash really is a very, very good boy.

The Humane Society has contacted the two phone numbers on her chip. One was disconnected, and on the other one no one picked up so a message was left with Lisa's name and phone number. That was Friday and no one has called about her.

The social media posts get lots of Likes and "Oh, she's so cute" comments, but no one knows her.

Next door neighbor Nan loves our dogs, so I called her and invited her to come over last night and meet Minnie. Minnie is friendly and affectionate - she doesn't know a stranger, and she cuddled right up to Nan.

Lisa's plans at the moment are to continue to try to find Minnie's home. If not, then she will find someone who will give her a good home. She should be easy to rehome - she has perfect house manners, she only barks when playing, she loves people, gets along with other animals, and frankly, is a joy to be around.

We have lots of questions, though. Where did she come from? Why is no one actively looking for her? Was she dumped for some reason? Who would abandon such a good tempered, well mannered dog? Or lose it and not look for it?

We may never know, but we DO know that we will see Minnie to a home where she is safe, happy, and loved.
