Circus Time - My New/Old Remco Circus Horse

Recently a friend who knows my love of circus horses found a Remco Circus Liberty Horse and offered it to me in trade for a haversack. 

I had one of these when I was a kid, and played with it until it was in pretty bad shape. (I think I still have it tucked away in a box.)

The kit was distributed in 1969 so this is an old piece - no surprise that its glue is yellowing. (I'm kind of surprised that the plastic isn't yellower, too.)

The one my friend found has been well loved, too.

It needs some time with Dawn dishwashing liquid and I may even wash its mane and tail, too. (It's fake fur on a mesh fabric base and I have some just like it in my sewing stash. I will try hand washing some of that first.)

Someone in the past decided to hot glue it to the base. That's not necessarily a bad idea, but they didn't get the pegs down into the base's holes all the way when they applied the hot glue. As a result, the model lists to one side.

The Recmo Circus Liberty Horse is about the same size as a traditional Breyer so it won't be a problem to fit it on my shelves.

Circus Time: Miscellaneous Circus Horses

I never know what might pop up when I type in "circus horse" to a search box on sales sites. Here are a couple of those that popped up and ended up in my collection.

This first piece is from Etsy where I was just doing a casual search for circus horses. Star, a chubby, kind of unremarkable bowing circus pony popped up.

He was sculpted and produced by a woman named Lynn Haste and is part of a collection she designed called "Hasty Horses."

Originally she had planned to have a ballerina to partner with Star, but she wrote that she never got it done and did not plan to make any more horses and was moving on to other things. (Star and several other horses are still for sale and they can be found on Etsy here.)

I think these next two are from Etsy as well. They're just a little bigger than Mini Whinnies, but they are not as rounded as those - they're actually fairly flat and don't stand well.

These are the only ones like this that I have ever seen and I've often wondered what they were made for. Are they toys? Birthday cake decorations? They have pretty good detail and are a heavier plastic that is similar to Schleich pieces. Two different poses make me wonder if these are part of a set and if there might be more out there. 

Next up is something that may be tucked away in a box somewhere in my home, but it may also no longer be in my collection. (Although parts of the tack still are.)

The photos are taken from Google Images, but I had this horse in the mid 1970s and had assembled it.

Some day I'd like to find another and am keeping my eyes open for one.

Believe it or not, as a child I badly wanted the Fisher Price Circus set. I never had it. 

But, I did find the circus horse from the set for sale once and bought it for my collection!

And here's a "Grammy purchase" for the Cowpokes and Pony Pals, although they never got to play with it.

This is the Playmobile Circus Horse set that I found at Toys R Us years ago. Honestly, I did buy it for my grandchildren, but when I got it home, I liked it too much and tucked it away in a closet with other boxes of things from my collection! (Photo from Google Images.)
