After I witnessed the SpaceX Starlink Satellites last week, my friend, Kathy Bateman, posted a comment on that blog post that gave me the shivers when I read it. Why? Because there was an eerie resemblance to my second sighting.
To be clear about this, I had never shared my experiences with her - only a few family members knew about them. To have Kat share her own experience that mirrored one of my own was sobering and more than a little hair raising. It was also a bit affirming to me. "I'm not crazy! I don't have a wild imagination! Someone else saw the same thing!" and more went through my mind when I read her story.
To refresh your memories, go here to read about the experience that I had and which Kat's mirrors so well.
With her permission, I share some of the conversation we had via text and Facebook Messenger as we discovered that we had had very similar experiences.

I knew it was Star Link as soon as I started reading, lucky you ! I am a bit of a sky nerd and really like stuff like that. Have yet to be able to see them although I've "seen" the space shuttle once and the ISS several times. I too had a UFO experience once. I was at Lodge Park for their 4th celebration, laying back on a blanket. I looked up during a lull and a section of stars were suddenly just not there, just blackness, and then reappeared moments later. No sound, too large an area to have been a plane. Very disturbing to say the least and like you, generates a bit of anxiety recalling it.
I think my jaw dropped when I read what she had written. I responded by sending her the link to the Teachinmama blog where I had originally recorded my three experiences in August, 2013.

Here is the link to my night sky experience that is so similar to yours. I wrote it down in 2013 but it happened in the 1980s. I'd love to hear your thoughts.
After reading the original blog post on Teachinmama, Kat responded. (Actually, two responses - we were chatting via both email and Facebook Messenger.)

Almost exactly what I experienced. I just know that "something" large blocked out the stars and then the stars gradually came back. I too had a sudden (irrational ? instinctive ?) feeling of dread and foreboding. I never spoke of it to anyone. I wonder if it was the same year as yours. I honestly don't remember.

I sent an email reply but should have noted that the stars reappeared because the "something" slowly moved/disappeared. It was not a sudden movement. My recollection is that the "something" slowly "swallowed" the stars and then the stars came back. It was also in the 80's. I know I had Shannon with me and recall covering Harley's ears when the fireworks went off. He would have been a toddler (or a bit younger) born in 1983.

Yes, you may. I already sort of did in commenting on your blog entry. Mine was July 3 either 1984 or '85 based on Harley's age, most probably 1984 (he would have been 8 months old. I do recall a stroller but I don't think he was walking). I don't think that I've ever felt that level of primal fear and dread before or since and I think that that may be what sticks with me more than the actual “something". Lodge Park, a Forest Preserve park along the Sangamon river close to Monticello. They have their 4th of July fireworks on the 3rd.
