Feast of the Hunter's Moon: Final Prep

The Feast of the Hunters' Moon is this weekend, and while the riding habits are done, there is still prep to do.

Lisa had an unexpected opportunity to try on more of her aunt's habits as well as one that was her grandmother's. (That was a misty moment for us both.)

Then, there was something that actually felt more like a spa day than preparing for an event - having Whitney, my hair stylist, teach us how to put up our hair 18th century-style!

Whitney flat ironed my hair, then "bride of Frankensteined" (as she called it) the top part. (I love the look on Lisa's face!)

Then the top poof was gathered and secured with bobby pins.

 

 

The top poof will be mostly under the hat, but there will be times when I take the hat off.

The bottom hair can be turned into ringlets, left straight, or, instead of flat ironing that hair, I can let my natural curls stay.

Lisa was next - here she is with her bride of Frankenstein poof (and Whitney!)

Seeing how the hat works on top of the poof. This is my mother's hat and Lis will be wearing it in memory of her grandmother. (My mom was one of the founders of the Feast and attended it for decades.)

Whitney gave us lots of tips on how to recreate these styles on our own and we are grateful for her help (and the fun we had - Whitney is a dear.)

Tomorrow I will be out at Fort Ouiatenon all day helping with the schools who are coming on field trips and then doing final set up for Chien Noir Trading Company, Leslie and Rick's sutlery.  Saturday, of course, the Feast begins and I will be at the fort again from dawn until dark.

Busy next couple of days and I may miss posting for a day or two. But I'll be back, so stay 'tooned!

Pony Pals, Ponies, and Bunnies

I love it when my kids send me photos of their children doing something horsey.

Kyle sent me this one of Addie, Whitney, and Corinne at a church BBQ recently near their home in St. Augustine, Florida. (I once brought my horse, Indy, to a church BBQ years ago when we lived in Illinois. Go here to read about that.)

And mutton bustin' Cambria loves to go to rodeos. In this one, she reverted back to her love of all things unicorn at the face painting booth

and then schmoozed with a couple of the junior rodeo queens before the bicycle parade.

And then there's Pony Pal Kate who truly is a horse lover. But, her first love is bunnies. She just celebrated her third birthday in true bunny lovin' style. (I sent her bunny slippers and a Schleich horse play set.)

Which is fine by me - I understand having a passion for an animal, even if it isn't a horse. (Although I don't think that I will ever understand the appeal of unicorns!)

Whitney's Turn!

Whitney may be the youngest in her family, but because she has older siblings, in may ways she acts far older than three years old. Hopping up onto Diablo did not phase her one bit.

 She spent most of the arena ride with a smile on her face!

Poor Tim - by this time he (and probably Diablo) had to be getting tired!

Look at that smile - she may be like Addie and be another horsey girl in the making!
