Heat Wave

Much of the central part of the USA has been experiencing a heat wave with temperatures in the high 90s and heat indexes up to 117. Excessive heat warnings are posted all over the midwest.
Indiana is right in the thick of it - look at the "feels like" temperature! 108 degrees!

The horses are spending a lot of time in the cool shade of the old barn.
Still, Abby hustles right up when she hears me call to her. Peppermints are worth being out in the heat!
She is handling the heat well, and the bonus from the heat is that the flies are almost nonexistent and not bothering the herd.
I keep my barn visits with her short when it is this hot - I don't want to be out in the heat too long, either.
Despite the heat the pastures continue to grow and are quite lush. I imagine that soon Tim will do another cutting of hay to add to what we already have for the coming winter.

The excessive heat is moving east and cooler temps are predicted to arrive next week. That will be a welcome relief.
