Family at the Feast

It was wonderful to have family at the Feast. Not just Lisa, Leslie, and Rick,

but some Pony Pals and their parents who surprised me by coming through the secret back entrance to my tent.

Lukie, Ian, and Mila in their period clothing!

After we visited, they headed out with their parents to enjoy the rest of the day, wandering the grounds,

heading to the parade grounds to play early American games,

and listening to some of the militia bands play together.

The weather could not have been better - low 70s, dry, and sunny.

The Feast isn't just about food (although that's certainly a big part of it). It's an immersion into several cultures that were around Fort Ouiatenon in the 1700s.

The Pony Pals are the fourth generation of my family to attend the Feast.

And to see them where their great grandmother, great aunts, grandmother, father, aunts, and uncles all stood made me shed a sentimental tear or two. (For the record, sausage on a stick is one of the best things to eat at the Feast.)

I love Ouiatenon, I love the Wabash, and I love my family.

The Feast of the Hunters' Moon brings all those things together.
