Abby Gets a Surprise

A box arrived in the mail the other day - not a surprise as we get a lot of boxes in the mail.

Except... this was was intended for Abby, so that was a surprise!

It was chock full of pepperminty goodness, Abby's favorite treat.

Thanks, Evelyn L.! That was so thoughtful of you, and I will be sure to share the candy canes with Abby and the herd. (Er, if she lets them have any, that is.)

Impatient Ponies

Sometimes you just can't unwrap the candy canes fast enough.

Abby, are you sticking your tongue out at me? What's the deal about that??

I am down to my last two boxes of candy canes, and for some reason, these were problematic to unwrap.

It didn't help that Sultanna, who had just had a drink of water, nuzzled me and got my hands wet.

That made it so that any bits of candy cane that were partially unwrapped became sticky which made my hands sticky which made it even more difficult to unwrap the treats!

In the end, everyone got a nibble, and my two favorite girls were happy.

Make that three happy girls.

Zebra Candy & Abby Candy

I set a reminder on my phone to remind myself to check Breyer's web site and see what they had up for the Santa Surprise Christmas Day.
They had the zebra mold listed in four colors (red, green, gold, and blue) of 500 each plus 12 "Licorice" (coal) in black!
While I thought the price point at $135 (and free shipping) a bit high, I still went ahead and ordered one and I sure am glad that I did.
Photos do not do the piece justice - it's a pearly and just beautiful!

I'd hoped to get a green zebra as Green is the last name of my friend, Pam, who died, but I am still happy with the gold. As I understand, they did not sell out and so maybe I will have another chance. (I'd love a red one, too, since Abby's favorite treat is red and white candy canes!)

Speaking of candy canes, Teacher Daughter sent me this photo yesterday. It was the first day back to school from winter break and these three boxes were in her school mailbox along with a note.
"Dear Herd: Love, JoEllen."  JoEllen is a fellow teacher who knows that Lisa likes to go to the barn with me and feed candy canes to the herd.

You can bet that Abby wrote her a thank you note!

Pony Pal Corinne's Gift

Two weeks after my surgery, our newest granddaughter, Melissa Jean, was blessed in Church.
Sadly, because of my surgery, I was not able to travel all the way to Florida and back, so we decided that Craig would go without me.
Two of our adult kids, Lisa and Curt, live nearby, and they kept an eye on me during his absence.

Pony Pal Corinne (the girl in the white and blue striped dress) was born the day I brought Abby home from Indiana Horse Rescue, and a joke between Corinne and me is that she and Abby are twins since they share a birthday. In fact, when she was little, Corinne called Abby, "my tin hoss."
The "twins" enjoying their sisterhood (and a candy cane) in 2107.
Corinne is a very thoughtful girl, and she wanted to send me a little something with Craig when he came home. She chose a candy cane that she had been saving since last Christmas and told him that it was for her twin horse. (She can say it correctly now; I miss that sweet little baby phrase!)

We took it out to Abby the day after Craig flew home from Florida.
I decided that it would be nice if Corinne could see her twin horse enjoying the gift she'd sent.
So Craig took a couple of videos to share with her.
The verdict? Delicious!!

Thank you, Pony Pal Corinne!

Who's that Girl??

(Start humming the Madonna song - er, not that I like Madonna. Her song fits, however!)
Diablo and Abby are highly interested in something. But what??
Hm... I see some jeans and a bit of red. Who's that girl?
Why, it's Lisa! And she's handing out a herd favorite - bits and pieces of candy canes! (No wonder she was being frisked.)

And over by the hay rack, Diablo is at it again, only this time with Dolly. Who's that girl?
Wait! It's two girls, not one!
 Abby and me!
Sorry, girls, but Abby got all the treats I brought.

Yes, she's my favorite girl in the herd.
And she knows it. (Those soft nickers do me in every time.)
