Thanksgiving 2023: Grammy's History Tour

First Post of the Day

Monday morning started with Jessie and her kids gathering in my office, chatting with me as I worked on the day's blog post. Such a lovely way to start my day; I am going to miss our little morning hang-outs when they go home!

I gave Cambria a gift I had been saving for her.

The gold unicorn snow globe I'd made for Breyer's November Collectors Club Workshop.

I couldn't leave Titan out; I gave him a fun bendy cowboy and horse that I'd had in my own collection.

Grabbing some paper from the computer printer and laying a few sharpened pencils out on my desk when Cambria asked if she could draw, I was surprised and pleased when she announced that what she wanted to draw was my horse room for me.

"I want to draw every one of your horses, but they sure do take time!" she announced after she was well into the project. I'm not yet allowed to look at the picture, but she did comment that the Coke can that was on my desk had been included. Haha!

While she drew, Titan and Jessie helped me proof the blog post I was working on. He read aloud what I had written and I made corrections as needed to the draft.

On the docket for the day was a history tour as well as getting our new water heater installed. The water heater was being delivered in the early afternoon so we headed out on the tour as soon as we were all dressed and ready for the day.

The site of the Battle of Tippecanoe is just a couple of miles from my home so we started there.

In memory of my mother's service to researching and writing books about the history of Tippecanoe County, a tree was planted in her honor several years ago on the battlefield. 

We took a couple of the ornaments I've been making to hang on her tree.

I will go retrieve them after the holidays are over but in the meantime, it warms my heart that my mom has been remembered by her great grandchildren.

We walked around the battlefield and then hopped back into the cars and drove to another Battle of Tippecanoe site, Prophet's Rock.

Across Burnett Creek and a marsh from the battlefield, Prophet's Rock is purported to be the place where Tecumseh's brother, Tenskwatawa, the Prophet, encouraged and blessed the Shawnee Nation prior to the battle.

It's now a peaceful and very quiet spot in the woods.

I came here as a child, my kids did the same, and now the grands have visited it.

Craig and I chose to not climb all the way up as the climb can be dicey, especially when covered in leaves. But we still could stand and watch Jessie and her family enjoy checking out that megalith. 

Time was getting away from us and so we headed to a nearby McDonalds for lunch, and then went back to the house to let the water heater installers in to replace our water heater.

We also began getting ready for our anniversary dinner celebration.
