Nash and Molly spend Wednesdays and Fridays here at our home with Pepper and Tammo. Their days with us tend to be much the same routine, one which all four dogs enjoy and know well. They can tell time so if you get off schedule, they will let you know (and every one of them knows how to do the BEST puppy eyes.)
I thought you all might enjoy a peek at a typical day for the dogs and us.
8:30 Arrival
They are always so happy to see each other and ready to get their day together started!
9:00 Walk around the back yard and take care of business
Arrival is a VERY exciting event and that prompts this little excursion. If you know what I mean.
"Hey!! That whippersnapper Tammo been using my favorite tree!!"
9:30 Play time!
Clearly Tammo has worn out both Nash and Pepper in this video. She's sheltering under the dining room table (he's so tall, he has to crouch to join her and that acts as a deterrent) while hanging onto her toy by lying on it.
Having already played and played hard for a while, Nash just stands there and ignores Tammo's invitations to continue. Mama stays either safely on her bed or next to Craig or me and avoids the chaos that is called Tammo.
10:00 Rest from that strenuous morning activity.
The girls crash in my office while I work, and the boys are across the hall in Craig's office. (Mama is on prednisone which is prompting that plumpness.)
10:30 Eggs with Boompa!
The dogs hear Craig pull out the cast iron skillet and explode off their beds, running down to the kitchen to watch as he fixes his own bacon and eggs plus four extra eggs, one per dog. At this point, the drooling rate is exceptionally high; glad they are staying (mostly) on the old bedspread.
No pressure, Craig! Just four pairs of eyes watching your every move, and when you fill those bowls on the counter, things will ratchet up into high gear!
DoorDash Craig delivers the food.
12:00 "Please, sir! We want some more!"
I like to read in my favorite chair while eating my lunch. While I wish they were asking me to read aloud to them, they're not. That Skinny Pop is calling their names!
(You'd thing they'd all taken a leaf out of Charles Dickens' book, Oliver Twist.)
1:00 Nap time
The boys hang out with Craig; the girls with me again. Nash feels duty-bound to watch out for anyone who dares walk past our home, so he positions himself on the spare bed by the window and keeps one eye open as he sleeps. Tammo gets as close as he can to Craig - he loves to hang out with him.
(That bed is so messy because of Nash's enthusiastic leaps on and off it. We remake it after he leaves and then always completely change the bedding when company is coming.)
3:00 Peanut butter filled Kongs!
Another highlight of the day for the dogs is getting their 3:00 Kong.
My home is full of the scent of peanut butter
and the very loud sound of LICK! LICK! LICK!
For some reason, Tammo does not like peanut butter and ignores his Kong. But I keep offering him one, just in case. (One of the other dogs grabs it when he leaves it lying untouched.)
5:00 Dinner time!
The clarion call of kibble! If it's any time after 4:00 PM and either Craig or I get up from our desk and sewing chairs for any reason, this is bound to happen.
Four dogs, four different kinds of kibble. How many highlights can there be in one day?
Craig and I do the divide and conquer hack to get all the bowls filled. Meanwhile, the dogs mill around and you feel the constant booping of a nose on the back of your thighs. (Any guesses as to which dog urges us to hurry like that? I'll reveal it at the end.)
5:30 She's home!
It's a thrill when Lisa walks through the door again. The day has been soooooo long without her! She always plays with them when she gets home. (Often necessitating another trip to the back yard.)
6:00 Just us
Things settle down quickly. Pepper and Tammo are tired from their busy day and usually flop onto the carpet and go straight to sleep.
Craig and I are tired, too. But it has been a wonderful day with four pups who love life and love us and never fail to make us smile.
We can't wait to do it all again.
The Mystery Booper
Believe it or not, the dog who boops the back of our thighs while eggs or dinner are being prepared is Molly. It's gentle and it's quick, but it's also done repeatedly. She may be shy and skittish at times, but Mama sure wants her food! (Scroll back up to the picture of Craig fixing eggs. That's Molly behind him, in place for more booping while waiting impatiently for her egg.)
