Here Comes the Eclipse. And the Dogs. And the Family...

Second Post of the Day

On Monday, the United States will see a total eclipse of the sun. Another total eclipse will not happen in the USA until 2045, so it is a very big deal, especially if you have never seen one before. (I have and it is very cool.)

Have a listen to one of my all-time favorite Beatle songs - a gentle ode to the return of the sun. Seems appropriate in light of tomorrow's approaching eclipse.

Indiana is in the path of totality. We live where the red diamond is, so we will only see a partial eclipse if we stay home. So, like hundreds of thousands of other people, we are heading south to see the total eclipse. We may land in Boone County whose new motto is, "Get Mooned in Boone." Alrighty then!

Due to concerns about trying to run school bus routes in heavy traffic, local schools have all been closed for the day. Purdue is open, but professors have been told that they can "make the decision for themselves about holding classes." Traffic has been pouring into town all weekend and restaurants and motels are full.

Family has also been pouring into town for us. Frank and his daughter Eva are already here, and Cole and crew came in last night.

They brought their new dog, Henry, and I can't wait to meet him.

Our policy has always been, "Bring your dogs if you want" when our family gathers and if everyone brings their dogs today for our family dinner, we will have six big dogs - Pepper, Tammo, Nash, Molly, Gus, and Henry. 

Tammo will be in heaven with Nash to play with, Gus will be bringing balls to anyone who has hands, Molly will find her quiet corner and stay out of things (unless the smells from the kitchen become irresistible), Pepper will grab her favorite toys and lie on them so no one else can play with them, and then Henry is the wild card - I have no idea how he will act among all the doggie chaos. (Oh, did I mention that Gus will probably jump over the couch at least once?)

Sure could be interesting trying to walk around this house with six dogs and 15 people in attendance! And I just spoke with Hawkeye Sarah - we still have bedrooms available and they only live 5-6 hours away. We can handle three more adults and two more dogs between the three homes here. I hope they come!

Everyone is coming over around noon today and we plan to have a potluck with  pulled pork sandwiches and other things. 

Depending on time, and definitely without dogs, we may go out to the barn, too. I took Frank and Eva out Friday - neither of them had ever touched a horse or been around them at all. It was so fun introducing them to Abby, Sultanna, and Hokey.

But that's the subject of a blog post in and of itself.
