Kalamazoo Week: The Care Bag & the March Give Away

Second Post of the Day

When I last wrote about Ethan's assignments for my volunteer duties, I was headed out to go shopping for one of them, that of helping Paisley with the girls on Friday if I was needed. I had been making a care bag and needed some things to put inside it to help keep their little girls entertained and happy during the two day show.

It's now all packed and ready to be given to Paisley and Ethan on Friday at the staff dinner meeting.

There are some things for Paisley and Ethan to have for themselves (M&Ms, hand lotion), and other things for parenting (hand sanitizer, tissues, Goldfish.)

The girls' pockets already have some things tucked into them.

A finger puppet, crayons, a drawing pad, stickers,

and a board book.

The puppets and books that are not yet in the girls' pockets are packed with the parents' things, ready to be switched out when the girls get bored and need something new to play with.

This works with dogs as well as kids. Yesterday Tammo found the six doggy toys I'd put away for a while and he took every single one of them back out to the living room! Goofy boy!

I've tucked in a note explaining the care bag and switching out the toys as needed. And, that I was careful to buy safe-for-littles items and snacks. (Those finger puppet eyes are NOT going to be pulled off by tiny hands!)

Here's hoping that the care bag comes in handy for Paisley and Ethan.

  1. Your care bags for Paisley and Ethan (and their kids) are not only sweet but I'm sure will be tremendously appreciated during the show.

  2. I'm glad you included the "stress tabs" (M & Ms) for for adults. :)

  3. All the items were so thoughtful, I would be entertained with those items. I love the bright fabric of the pockets.

  4. Are the kids old enough for little sketch pads? I had two 10-year-olds with me in church once (my now-20yo niece and her friend) and when they got restless I drew a circle on the back of a bulletin and handed it to them. They proceeded to draw detailed portraits of Uncle Tim (my husband). It kept them busy — and quiet — for the rest of the service. 😁

  5. What a thoughtful, and experienced, mom you are! Of course 6 kids would qualify near anybody, but still, I detect a real carefulness and also artistic support here, very much 'you'... Oh and I Love that deer wax pattern!
