Making Progress!

Ugh! Why is it that to become organized, you have to become DISorganized first?

But, there is a certain satisfaction in sorting and grouping and checking off lists as you make order out of chaos.

Some hobbyists put their models into tubs in class order. That way they can pull the model out, put it in the ring, and then pack it to go home when the class is done.

Not me. I've tried it, but I end up with unused space in the tubs and bringing far more tubs than I really need. Which takes up space in the car that I might not have.

My models go in Jenga style - I fit to conserve space while keeping in mind fragile pieces and watching the weight that might be put on any models by the way I pack.

I knew Mr. FOMO would come in and offer to help!

Back in the 1980s, my sister Leslie gave me her carpet herd as she was concentrating on her real horses instead. I've had them ever since, and some have gone to shows with me and done well.

She is coming to the show and going to help me run the Mercantile and put ponies on the tables. I thought it would be fun to bring a few models that had been hers so that she could see them show.

Old Maude is a beloved childhood piece of hers and was named after our Great Aunt Clara's Percheron that  she and our Great Uncle Lloyd had used to work their farm in Illinois.

Another favorite of Leslie's was this Hartland ebony woodcut Thoroughbred mare and foal set.

This is a rare set and very hard to find, and since it is in excellent shape, it shows very well in collectibility classes. I am hoping that one of these three pieces wins a ribbon. If they do, I'm going to give it to Leslie. 

I finished the models mid afternoon and then looked at my list of what still needed to be done. It's not too daunting, but I do have things to finish:

- Inventory and pack Mercantile

- Make last couple of documentation cards

- Go to bank and get cash for sales (and purchases!)

- Carry tubs downstairs and put in laundry room near garage door

- Pick up snacks and water 

- Prepare Sunday School lesson for Church

- Write Saturday and Sunday's blog posts
