Visiting Misty and Marguerite Henry's Home

 Second Post of the Day

Midwest Mini Mayhem is held in St. Charles, Illinois and that is where Misty lived with Marguerite Henry. Liz and Sam Cory were kind enough to take me by their home site while I was in town.

As we got close to their home, we saw this sign in what looked to be a fenced pasture that was being allowed to grow wild.

Liz explained that Misty had not actually lived in that pasture but it was to honor her memory.

Marguerite Henry's home has been razed, but apparently Misty's barn and paddock are still standing.

The area we were in was Wayne, a tiny village near St. Charles that describes itself as "an equestrian community with a unique equine history."

There were horses everywhere

and evidence of their influence upon the community.

This business just down the road from Misty's home surprised me - did some of the Beebe family move to Illinois? Perhaps to be closer to Misty or Marguerite?

A Google search showed that there are many Beebes in Illinois, so it was probably just a coincidence.

I wish there had been more to see, even a museum dedicated to Misty and Marguerite. Perhaps that will happen some day - after all, the Beebe farm was just saved from a developer and is now being turned into a museum.

Perhaps that could be done here. Surely Misty and Maureen deserve that honor.
