We often get together with Lisa, Curt, Vanessa, and the kids (and dogs) on Sundays for dinner. Last Sunday was no exception, and the fun started as soon as everyone was through the front door.
Lukie kicked the evening off for us that evening. He came into the kitchen and spied the gingerbread houses (and barn) that Lisa, Kyle, and I had made.
"Cool!! I call dibs on eating the chocolate horse!" he cried out to his siblings in the other room.
He was more than a little disappointed when I told him that it was a plastic Mini Whinny and not a chocolate horse.
When he was little, Lukie coined the phrase "none butter" as in, "There is none butter on my roll." He loves butter and when that is combined with his strong sense of humor, this happens.
He seriously was planning on eating that. Luckily a sharp eyed Aunt Jenny noticed and intervened. (This was Easter dinner, 2024.)
The none butter joke has been going on for several years now, and this Christmas someone found this big stick of squishy butter and gifted it to Lukie.
Ian recreated Lukie's family famous none butter photo with it Sunday night.
The dogs are all invited to come to Sunday dinner, too. And as usual, Lisa is the doggo magnet. Gus wasn't even asking her to play ball or for a nibble from her plate; he was just being affectionate.
Mila disappeared shortly after we ate.
She was found curled up in Tammo's bed behind the couch with her new Kindle.
Even though every chair and couch in the living room was open and available, Mila chose the dog's bed. Go figure.
The dogs didn't mind and continued to play around her as she read.
Notice how Pepper is guarding a whole bunch of toys while poor Tammo tries to figure out how to get one of them. (Most likely the red curvy bone. It is the dogs' favorite and is always hotly contested.)
Mama rarely plays; she prefers what we call "the doggy drive through."
Seriously, they all know that they can stand there by the couch and that Craig will reach a hand down and give them a good scratch.
I have seen the dogs line up and vie for a turn, pushing each other out of the way to get a coveted Boompa scritching.
Miss Molly may be the shortest of the dogs, but she is an English Lab and thus built like a Mack truck.
She pushes the other waiting dogs aside as though they were bowling pins and scores more scritches than anyone else. (And considering her age coupled with her past history of terrible abuse, we let her get away with it.)
Sunday dinners and the family fun that accompanies them are a bright spot in my week and are always over too soon for me. But, the kids and Lisa have school the next day and Curt and Vanessa have work.
I am already looking forward to next Sunday.
