Summer Heat Wave

It's hot in Indiana and very humid. I dropped by the barn today around noon and the horses had already gone into the old barn to escape the heat of the day.
Abby and Diablo peeked out when they heard me call.
Abby looked around for a while, considering if the peppermints she knew that I had were worth the short jog across the pasture to me. She decided it was just too hot to make the effort. And I didn't have my barn shoes with me, so I didn't want to walk through the pasture to her. I had to settle for seeing her from afar today.
It may be hot, but it's also haying time.
Tim has cut the hay and it is drying quickly in this heat. I would not like to be the one who does the baling and then moves those bales to storage!
A nice side effect of the heat, though, is that it has encouraged my favorite Indiana wildflower, Fleabane, to grow - I love how it lines this lane back to the far northwest pasture.

There is no end in sight to our heat wave, and it is expected to get worse this weekend, so I may have to make sure I have my barn shoes with me so that I can walk to Abby if she doesn't feel like coming to me.
