After losing Little Feller last May, Sultanna was rebred again during her foal heat. She did not come back into heat after that, so we thought she was pregnant and due at the end of this month.
She is a very big boned mare, so it is possible that her pregnancy does not show. That happens sometimes, as it did with my mare, Amy.
My sister was caring for her as I had just gotten married and moved to Michigan. Someone put a yearling colt in with her and nobody thought anything about it until Amy presented them with a foal eleven months later!
While we could call a vet out and have Sultanna checked, that wouldn't change anything. She already gets great care and good nutrition, and she either is in foal or she isn't.
Tim was traveling when Little Feller was born and never saw him alive. For Tim's sake, I really hope she is.
She may have been pregnant but lost it early. It's very common. Was she ever vet checked and ultrasounded to confirm last summer?
ReplyDeleteWas Little Feller her first, or has she carried to term before? There may have been a low grade infection or she just wasn't recovered enough to catch on the foal heat. Lots of reasons are possible. Breeding is harder than it looks, it seems. I do hope Tim gets a foal some day.
