Ghosts of Scrooges Past: New & Shiny

While reading A Christmas Carol aloud to Lisa's class, I realized that her copy of the book was old and had minimal illustrations, all of which were poorly drawn and in black and white. Frankly, even the cover was not enticing at all - who would want to read that book?

"Oh, no, no, no, no!" I thought to myself. "This won't do. There are so many beautiful editions out there with lovely illustrations. She needs something better."

And so I started looking.

I brought in my own beautiful edition and read from it. I wanted her to have something like it, a keepsake and a reminder of happy days spent with kids who were engrossed in the story and begged her to read longer and not stop every single day.

This is what I found and purchased. Isn't it lovely?

Wednesday I surprised Lisa by walking into her class unannounced, explaining that I had a gift for her and her students. 

Look at her face! She has just realized what I've given her.

Color illustrations that are beautifully drawn and are in color!

We briefly discussed what a "plate" was and how this book had plates throughout it.

I had to laugh as Lisa paged through the book, showing plate after plate. The kids crept closer and closer...

until they were practically in her lap! 

As I started to make my way to the door, the kids turned and began thanking me without any prompting from Lisa. I went home happy that they'd all liked their new book and pleased that yet another generation was having a terrific experience with one of the best works of fiction ever written.
